A
Room Full of Memories is a solo exhibition of an installation by Rubbena
Aurangzeb-Tariq. She is an artist who has trained at Goldsmiths, Surrey
and St. Martins and whose work has been exhibited widely both nationally
and internationally, and also been presented on national television. She
has been exhibiting her work for more than twelve years now.
Born and raised in Surrey, the deaf child of Asian parents, Rubbenas
work deals with the tensions between cultures and the range of human experience,
at the same time as revelling in the diversity of life in contemporary
Britain.
Rubbena has worked extensively in the field of mental health and is currently
completing her studies to qualify as an Art Therapist. She has also contributed
to her community by working for the Asian Deaf Womens Association
in East London.
She has delivered workshops for adults and young people at the Serpentine
and Whitechapel galleries and has worked as a reporter for Channel 4,
speaking on Deaf Art.
