My ideas come instinctively and flow in an associative way from one to another. In this sense my work has a life of its own, I need to make it, it needs to be made.
Each object I make has evolved through a process of observation, consideration, drawing and building. The process is only fixed when the work is glaze fired. I have developed the still-life as a three dimensional motif in my work and various forms of assemblage now make up the bulk of my output. The work has become less and less bound by the idea of the vessel as the central concept. I explore themes such as the firearms series over a period of time in different configurations and contexts.
I view my ceramics as an investigative process which is open to change and variation at all stages. Each composition has a logic of its own that becomes clear as I develop it. I try to make work that has an element of personal truth and value in it, I have to find ideas that are worth spending the time to design and build in ceramic form. Thatıs how I test if the ideas are strong enough.
