Debra Fendley

blue and reds making my own colour palettes for my projects.  I add oxides mostly cobalt and copper to enhance and add depth to the surface. Working on a 3D canvas I work with slips and oxides painting spontaneously creating layers of slip with paper resist shapes mostly circles and swirl shapes with textures with fabric, Hessian, sponges, twigs.

My inspirations are various and multiple but Maholy-Nagy, Paul Klee and the colour theory of Josef Albers are particular founding influences on my past research and practice.  My passion is the surface exploring decorative techniques creating 3D canvases which allow to viewer to see what is there, what is hidden, revealing patterns and perhaps even a story personal to them.
